Winner over hurdles at Lingfield

4 year old filly Russian Rumour made light work of her debut over hurdles when winning the mares maiden hurdle over two and half miles under a confident ride from Harry Bannister.
There was some respectable bumper form on offer from the more prominent NH yards and at one stage 100-1 was on offer for her until she started at 5-2. We are not a gambling yard so nothing significant came from our side for her but we knew she was well and fit and had really enjoyed just the three schooling sessions she had been given.
The win was poignant in that on the same day the funeral was being held of Tibby Edwards, son of the late Tom Edwards in who’s colours Russian Rumour wore for this win. Tom Edwards of course raced Annedcote, our Royal Ascot winner, in his colours which are now given to Fillies First in his memory. Russian Rumour is the daughter of Russian Rave who won 7 races for Tom and his friends here.
